Soyuz ST-B propels two nav satellites

Rocket launches with Galileo sat-nav satellites

A Soyuz rocket with two satellites on board that will join the new European sat-nav system has lifted off from French Guiana.

The Galileo project will provide great accuracy in locating where objects are on the planet and will have a large effect on how we live our lives, says the European Commission which has funded the new system.

To date we use the US GPS (Global Positioning System) which is accurate up to a several metres. Galileo will increase this to a few centimeters.
