The Week Ahead | U.S. Congress on recess until July; ILA Berlin Air Show takes flight


The U.S. Congress is on recess until July 5, when lawmakers return for nine days before another seven-week recess that takes us through Labor Day weekend (Sept. 5).

Monday was Memorial Day, so a shortened work week in Washington begins with a Secure World Foundation panel discussion Tuesday afternoon on U.S. national security space strategy.


  • The Hague, Netherlands: The European Space Solutions conference discusses the roles space systems can provide in topics ranging from agriculture to climate change to energy.
  • Valetta, Malta: The 4S Symposium discusses the development of small satellites, primarily in Europe.





  • Berlin: The ILA Berlin Air Show includes a space pavilion and a dedicated “Space Day” on Thursday.



  • London: SpaceUp:UK is an “unconference” with sessions on topics on science, education and human spaceflight organized by participants.


  • Plesetsk Cosmodrome, Russia: A Rockot launch vehicle is expected to launch a GEO-IK 2 geodetic satellite.
